Newsagents could start charging their own, higher prices for national newspapers following the latest cut in profit margins imposed by the owner of the Daily Mirror.

Reach – which also publishes papers including the Daily Express, Daily Star and Birmingham Mail – has bumped up the cover price of its Sunday Mail title by 10p to £2 from this weekend.
But it has cut the margin received by retailers by 0.4%, so they will now get just 40p per copy.
Angry newsagents are now considering covering up the recommended retail price (RRP) on the front of the Sunday Mail and setting their own selling price instead, after the NFRN trade body reminded store owners they were within their rights to do so.
